UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS (For Baseball Umpires)

 

NOTE:  CHANGE IS IN RULE Number 4; Going with Light blue with dark blue stripe on collar in 2006  

1.  Caps

Sized umpire’s (New Era) base cap and plate cap with SD insignia on the front.  Available through Harve’s Sport Shop in Mitchell SD.

 

2.  Shirts

Light blue pro style pullover shirt with dark blue stripe in collar.  You may choose poly micro mesh shirts.  South Dakota Umpires Association Patch to be worn on the left shoulder.

 

3.  Undershirts

If undershirts are desired, wear navy blue or scarlet red.

 

4.  Jackets

Navy blue pullover jacket.  You may choose between the Major League style with red and white trim on the collar, cuffs, and waistband or the collegiate style with white trim on the collar, cuffs, and waistband.

5.  Pants

Full length dress polyester, heather gray pants made to wear with a belt.  Fechheimer combo base & plate pants are popular (no shorts permitted).

 

6.  Belt

Black belt with no design (such as western style).

 

7.  Socks

Navy blue or black.

 

8.  Shoes

Plate shoes and base shoes.  Black and polished (Base shoes may have small white trim.)

 

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

 

1.  Mask

Choose a good mask with maximum protection, including extended throat and ear bar.  Preferred colors are black, navy blue, or royal blue (some masks offer tan doeskin pads).

 

2.  Chest Protector

Choose a good, serviceable chest protector with extra protection around the throat and shoulders.

 

3.  Shin Guards

Good, serviceable shin guards, always worn under the pant legs.

 

4.  Ball Bags

Navy blue, black, or heather gray in color, made of cloth (not canvas).

 

5.  Athletic Supporter and Cup

 

6.  Indicator (Balls, strikes and outs)

 

7.  Plate Broom (Small, pocket size)

 

8.  Rule Book (Up to date)

 

9.  Pen or Pencil (Small, pocket size)

 

10.     Equipment Bag and Shoe Bag

 

11. Patch  The SDUA Patch must be worn on the left shoulder.  If you have a legion umpire patch the S.DAK Umpire association should be worn above the legion patch.  Worn, patched or faded uniforms should be replaced.  Other equipment should be in good, serviceable condition.

 

Always remember that clean uniforms, shined shoes, proper haircut, and a clean shaven appearance can only

add to your professionalism.
